Seven criteria that separate the options

1. Is the price published?

If you cannot find a number without booking a sales call, that tells you something about how the product is sold. Published pricing is not a feature, but it is a strong signal about how the vendor treats customers.

2. Is proof enforced or optional?

Ask directly: can a driver mark a job delivered without a photo? If the answer is yes, you do not have a proof system, you have a suggestion. Enforced photo gates are what hold up when a customer claims damage a month later.

3. Will the crew actually use the driver app?

A mobile browser page is not an app. Look for a native iOS and Android app, a single obvious next action per stage, and offline tolerance — drivers work in basements, warehouses and rural lanes.

4. How is storage modelled?

If you hold goods, storage cannot be a text field. You need facilities, units, occupancy, access-code security and a link from the unit to the specific shipment inside it.

5. Does dispatch understand capacity and lanes?

Assigning a job should check whether the load fits the truck and whether the driver runs that route. A calendar that lets you drop any job on any driver will let you overbook a truck.

6. Is accounting included or an add-on?

Expenses, attendance, payroll and carrier settlement are where the real admin hours go. Check whether they are in the plan or a separate line item.

7. How is your data isolated?

Ask whether separation between customers is enforced at the database level or merely hidden in the interface. It is a fair question and a good vendor will answer it plainly.

What the market charges

TierTypical monthly costWho it suits
Entry-levelUnder ~$100Solo operators, one truck
Mid-tier~$150–$300Most independent movers
Enterprise$500–$2,000+ (quote-only)Large multi-branch fleets

Two cautions. First, many vendors publish no pricing at all. Second, the monthly figure is rarely the first-year cost — add onboarding, data migration and any add-ons you will actually use, then multiply the subscription by twelve.

For transparency, our own numbers: Store Stash is $175/month (Basic) or $199/month (Premium), published on the pricing page, with unlimited drivers, a 7-day free trial, and no onboarding fee. Apply the seven criteria above to us as readily as to anyone else.

Questions

How do I choose moving company software?

Score candidates on seven things: published pricing, whether proof photos are enforced, the quality of the driver app, how storage is modelled, whether dispatch checks capacity and lanes, whether accounting is included or an add-on, and how your data is isolated from other companies. Then check the first-year total, not the monthly sticker.

What does moving company software cost in 2026?

Entry-level tools for solo operators run under about $100 per month. Mid-tier platforms generally sit between $150 and $300 per month. Enterprise platforms for large fleets are typically quote-only and can run $500 to $2,000+ per month. Onboarding and migration fees are common and are not always included in the advertised price.

What is the most important feature in moving software?

For most operators it is enforced photo proof. It is the feature that settles damage claims, and it only works if the system refuses to advance a job without the photo rather than merely suggesting it.

Should a small moving company use software?

If you are losing money to damage claims you cannot disprove, or spending hours reconciling what crews collected, the maths usually works quickly. A single avoided claim often covers several months of subscription.
